Route 66 was officially designated on November 11, 1926. In 2026, communities across all eight states along the Mother Road are celebrating the centennial with events, festivals, and ceremonies.
Arizona, home to the longest continuously drivable stretch of Route 66 at 385 miles, has a packed calendar. Here's what's confirmed so far.
Spring 2026
Route 66 Race for Hospice (April 18, Kingman): A 10K and 5K race starting and ending at the Powerhouse Visitor Center on Route 66.
Route 66 Bike Week (April 20 to 26, statewide): A rolling motorcycle rally through historic Route 66 towns across Arizona. Recognized as the last full week of April annually.
Seligman Centennial Celebration (April 30, Seligman): The community that started the Route 66 preservation movement unveils new monument signs and hosts an all-day celebration. Seligman is where barber Angel Delgadillo launched the campaign that saved the road.
Summer 2026
Mother Road Classic Car Show (August 15, Flagstaff): Classic cars on display at the City Hall parking lot in downtown Flagstaff. Right on Route 66, right where they belong. Contact Suzanne Edmonds for sponsorship opportunities.
Fun Runs and cruises along the Seligman to Kingman corridor run throughout the summer months. The historic route between these two towns was the first section designated as "Historic Route 66" in 1987.
Fall 2026
The official centennial date is November 11, 2026, exactly 100 years from the original highway designation. Expect major events along the entire route as the date approaches.
AAA Route 66 Road Fest events are rolling throughout the year at locations across all eight Route 66 states. Check route66centennial.org for the national calendar.
National Milestones
The U.S. Postal Service is producing Route 66 Centennial commemorative stamps to mark the 100th anniversary.
The Route 66 Centennial Commission is coordinating a nationwide celebration including the Pathway Project (an interactive multimedia map of the entire route), landmark designations, and community grants.
Wear the Centennial
Weird & Wild West's Route 66 Centennial collection was created in partnership with the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. Original hand-drawn designs by Brigitte De Marco, made in Flagstaff, sold steps from Route 66 at The Underground at The Temple.
